Students enrolled in the HI-7000 program must complete a 80-hour clinical externship at a local medical facility or clinic.  Working with actual patients and applying the knowledge and skills learned during the didactic learning component of the program is crucial to success.  Students work as directed by the Externship Site Supervisor to observe, practice and demo...


  • Provide basic patient care — bathing, feeding, catheter care, etc.
  • Perform safety checks and ensure cleanliness in patient rooms
  • Obtain EKG readings and monitor vital signs
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families, particularly coping with grief and death
