Discover MyCAA and the Growth of Portable Careers - MedCerts

Is Short-Term Online Career Training Right for You?

ATTN Military Spouses: For a limited time, the Department of Defense has expanded eligibility for My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) to the first 1,250 approved applicants in the ranks of E-6 and O-3. MedCerts is an approved school for the MyCAA scholarship.

A career is more than just a job. It’s a professional direction and purpose that grows with you, bringing you fulfillment over the years.

For people who don’t move around a lot, career development can be easy to take for granted. They make their homes and find positions in places where their skills are in demand. That’s not always possible when you’re part of a military family.

MyCAA can help. It provides career development in fields that are highly portable, with positions available across the country. You can even get up to $4,000, in $2,000 increments per fiscal year, in scholarship funds to train for your new career.

How Does MyCAA Work?

MyCAA is a workforce development program that helps military spouses build valuable career skills. If you’re eligible, it can provide you with education funding and the support of an experienced career counselor.

Your counselor will help you explore career options and find MyCAA schools that match your interests, skills and needs. The focus is always on building a career in a high-demand and high-growth field of your choice, so you can find rewarding and gainful employment no matter where you go.

When you’re ready to start your education, MyCAA has a selection of approved training programs for you to choose from. Many, like MedCerts, target national certification, so you can be sure you’re getting an education that employers will trust.

What Kind of Training Can You Get?

MyCAA exists to help you get a job, so all MyCAA-approved programs are career-specific.

MedCerts offers a variety of MyCAA-approved training programs in high-growth fields like IT and healthcare. Programs are fully online, so you can study wherever you are. Also, because each program prepares you to qualify for a nationally recognized certification, you can take your training with you when you move.

Whether you prefer to work directly with the public or behind the scenes, there are programs to suit your interests. Examples include:

All of these careers — and more — are in demand and provide opportunities for long-term career growth.

Who Is Eligible for MyCAA?

MyCAA is available for spouses of:

  • Active-duty service members
  • National Guard and Reserve members under Title 10 orders with pay grades E1 through E5, O-1 through O-2, and W-1 through W-2

If you begin an approved education and training program while your spouse has an eligible rank, you remain eligible for assistance even if they get promoted. In all cases, you need to have completed high school or have a GED to be eligible.

The Takeaway

You don’t have to sacrifice your career to be a supportive military spouse. With MedCerts and MyCAA, you can train for an in-demand, portable career that you can take with you wherever you go. With $4,000 total in scholarship funding, you might even be able to do it with no out-of-pocket expenses. Learn more today.
